Course Description

Mental Health First Aiders are mental health and wellbeing ambassadors who are equipped with the ability to recognise the signs and symptoms of common mental health issues and ways to respond in a supportive and appropriate manner. Delegates will receive an in-depth understanding of mental health and wellbeing, learn practical skills that will give them the confidence to step in, reassure and support a person in distress. Promoting positive well-being in the workplace.

 

Course Syllabus

·       Understand a range of the most common Mental Health conditions

·       Understand the various sources for support for common mental health conditions

·       Understand how to listen actively, be supportive and then signpost to professional support for a person with a common mental health condition

·       Understand the role of the first aider in Mental Health in the Workplace

·       Know how to provide practical support in Mental Health

·       Know the recognition signs of stress and how to manage it

·       Promote confidence to reassure and support a person in distress

·       How to display empathy

·       How to create a Mental Health First Aid kit for your workplace

·       Understand how substance abuse can impact on Mental Health

·       Understand how to put an action plan for Mental Health in place within the workplace

·       Know how to implement a positive culture for Mental Health in the workplace

 

Please note: Assessment is completed through a multiple-choice question paper at the end of each session.

 

Who is this course for?

This accredited, two-day course is for those looking to gain a deeper understanding of mental health conditions and develop knowledge and learn how to support colleagues, to create a more supportive and inclusive workplace culture. In the workplace, having a fully trained Mental Health First Aider can help improve employee wellbeing, reduce absenteeism, and create a more positive and productive work environment. 

 

Please note: This course addresses potential mental health workplace issues, including topics of suicide and self-harm.

This course will take place at 37 Degrees at the Secret Garden in Seaton Delaval. Information on venue and course will be emailed upon booking.
